North American building codes require you to “derate” the breaker/wire for “continous loads” - continous loads are any appliance or device that will run at “max load” for more than 2 hours… so for a breaker/wire-gauge size of: 30 amps = 24 amp EVSE load - 5.76 kW 40 amps = 32 amp EVSE load -...

not quite - any North American “50 amp” plug - (NEMA 14-50, 6-50, 10-50) will charge an EV at 40 amps the next size up for most breakers is 60 amps - but that charger would be hardwired - an EV charger (EVSE) with a 60 amp breaker/wire can charge at EV at a maximum rate of 48 amps (12,000...

@Crick - I’ve had no further problems since making sure the passenger door is in the “unlocked” state - I also believe EA has been improving their chargers in this space as well - so far so good - this problem based on recent experience appears to be in the rear view mirror along with AMG...

make sure you're using an 80 amp TeslaTap/JDapter - the 40 amp version's may overheat when used at the full 48 amp charge rate the Taycan can support.

it is with some sadness that I note the Tesla site no longer offers the Gen2 Tesla Wall charger for sale via their website - it was perhaps the best and certainly most affordable 100/80 amp charger on the EVSE market. they are currently offering their Gen3 model - I have no personal experience...

you are correct a Gen1, Gen2, Gen3 Tesla Wall Charger "should" work - I only have personal experience with the Gen2 wall chargers (and some Gen1 but those don't count)… Gen3 is interesting - it communicates for loadsharing via WiFi, and has a 60/48 amp limit - the Gen2 is 20-100 amps and uses...

seeing the charging experience for the Taycan - my wife has banned it from being our road-trip car - and we're keeping the Model X for road trips - all she had to see was the one time she was with me and we couldn't unplug the cable with the Taycan and she was convinced Tesla's got a lead for bit…

You click Level Beyond or Level 6 (since you're doing 11 kW) - the write up doesn't apply to Europe since I don't know squat about power in Europe.

3-phase is not a thing in the US for residential power supply. Single phase 240 volt supply is the norm (100-200 amp service from the power company). and the typical US home only has a "few" 240 volt circuits (appliance, stove, oven, cloths dryer, water heater, air conditioning, EV chargers)...

for fun - please take the poll related to this posting - I'd honestly like to see what people have done or are planning to do for their charging - what level are you? https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/what-level-are-you-post-your-garage-charging-plans-or-what-youve-done.2344/

Dec. 2022 - Porsche recommends Hubble NEMA sockets - 6 gauge wire for your 50 amp circuit - and no longer recommends using L1/120V charging for "daily use" - these are all good recommendations - but they also attempt to shift blame to operational problems from their PMC/PMC+/PMCC to "low...
