I've had 3 Boxster and 3 911s. Boxsters are fantastic cars with a personality very different than the 911. I used to say I'd own both if I could afford to.

Well the 991 Targa was probably my favorite form factor. If they’d make that in EV form, it would be my top choice.

But they won’t, so Boxster.

Either way I can’t go back to ICE.

spent 8 days in Sicily with Porsche and 992.2 911 GTS's (RWD, Coupe, Covertable, Targa) - used to be a Targa fan - having spent a sunny spring day in Sicily in a Targa (my dream scenario) I no longer lust for Targa action vs. the Cabriolet…this is a surprise result for me personally - since I've always pestered my wife that we might prefer the Targa to our existing 911 Cab…

NOTE: this was the trend in the group of 16 people (8 cars) for the tour - at the beginning of the trip _EVERYONE_ wanted to drive one of the 2 Targa's (the tour group is arranged into two group of 4 customer cars and one tour-guide lead car) - each of the two groups had 1 Targa and 1 Cabriolet and 2 Coupes - and you rotated into each of the 4 911 GTS each driving day - by the end of the tour no one wanted the Targa and preferred the Cabriolet or the Coupe's - I find this a very very interesting result across 16 "random" Porsche customers and 911 enthusiasts…

my reasons for no longer "lusting" after a Targa?

• you can't open/close the Targa top without coming to a complete stop and putting the car in park…vs the Cabriolet which you can open/close "on the fly" at up to about 40 mph…
• also the space behind the front seats in the Targa is far less useful with the top up or down vs. the Cabriolet - there is less room due to the bulky "roll bar" aspect of the Targa…
• the extra "airflow" of the full Cabriolet is my preference vs the Targa

long and short for me personally is that the Targa is no longer on my wish list…this is a HUGE change of opinion for me and very very very surprising result. My little evil plan was to entice the wife with our Targa experience in Sicily and then come home and start the conversation about "swapping" our Cab for a new Targa - needless to say this plan died somewhere on day 3 of the tour while driving from Palermo to the southern coast of Sicily on a some truly stunning and lovely Sicilian back roads…it simply died and I couldn't wait to get back into one of the 911 coupe's or full Cab…see pic below for where I think my "dream" of owning a Targa died…it was a lovely spring day in Sicily and the road was spectacular - and I found myself wishing I was in the cabriolet…

April of 2026 prior to the Sicily Trip - lusting and wishing for a Targa
May of 2026 - spend 2 days in a 911 GTS Targa in perfect weather in Sicily
June of 2026 - no longer lusting after a Targa and now prefer the Cabriolet…

agree on the can't go back to ICE…

if I owned both a Targa and a Cabriolet - I'd always grab the Cabriolet keys…but that's a personal preference.

I’m not sure what it is about the Targa that I love so much. Maybe it’s the look with the stainless bar and glass bubble. Maybe it’s the cool robotics that eat the top. Maybe it’s that it feels like a hardtop when it’s buttoned up.

It did have downsides, and mine was a 2014 press car - literally one of the first Targas off the line.
Mostly squeaks and rattles. I spent my 6 years of ownership trying to resolve them and never fully did.

Man I still miss that car though. Got a lowball trade due to miles (65K) and a stop sale that was going on at the time. Car is worth twice what I got now, and equal to what I paid when I bought it.

I suppose if I’m honest I regret selling all my 911s though.

How about if we all recognize the greatness of many other cars we do not own and drive, and respect those that choose differently than we do!

Personally, I am a happy “bi” — with our Macan EV Turbo in one side of our garage and a gas guzzler C8 Z06 in the other side, e.g., 1,300 HP of joy.

When our Macan EV’s lease is over next year, it will be replaced by another, juicy Porsche EV.
