I thought it was unveiled 8 years ago?Maybe on a Tesla Roadster that is supposedly to be unveiled in 15 days.
Musk claims it can go 0 to 60 in under one second and will actually fly short distances?Maybe on a Tesla Roadster that is supposedly to be unveiled in 15 days.
I am going to test drive but I am kind of in your camp. Two years after launch with bugs worked out and battery tech advances and then maybe I would pull the trigger (assuming I like the test driveI had a 2011 Cayman S that I miss dearly, and I love the electrification on my 2024 Macan, but I think the electric Cayman will be a “pass” for me until this model gets solid state batteries. If Porsche wants to return to its high profit margins, it will need to maintain or recapture its historical lead in motive technologies.
my head says to do this - wait for bugs and depreciation to settle and buy slightly used. Heart says get an early allocation and customise it to my own spec like I did with the TaycanI am going to test drive but I am kind of in your camp. The white one fits best what I saw on the passes in Switzerland. The other colors don't use the cayman rear quarter window, but a 911 one - it will not be the 911 one.I know it’s a rendering but in the case of Porsche it’s pretty safe (rarely changes much). Yellow highlights the shape best in these pics, but I’ll likely go green for Significant Other reasons.
IMHO, having one port in the rear is superior to having one on each side. In such a small car, it'll be easy to plug in, no matter which side the charger is on. The short SuperCharger cables are a problem, potentially, but that's on Tesla. The rear is just as weird as the old boxter.
On the cayman, it will look vastly better; the roof line goes all the way to the spoiler.
And yes, the charging port in on the back. It's the first porsche EV with 1 single charging port; so clear intention of lowering the price. The port should be higher than the impact zone of most small rear end accidents, and it of course depends how deep within the opening the port actually is and how well protected it is.
It is definitely awkard placement, as it will clearly affect the boot space of the cayman, if it has any. I suspect they did it to be able to save weight on wiring, as the battery is right there behind the seats, everything else would be around there also, therefore much shorter cables.
On the upside, it is very accesible if it ever needs repair.
